| Dr. Patricia N. Marks is a Deaconess in the United Methodist Church. In responding to her call to alleviate suffering and eradicate causes of injustice she serves the incarcerated, newly released, their families and communities. Dr. Marks is active in the Kairos Prison Ministry Program in Mayland and Virginia. She has served as a volunteer lay Chaplain at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Virginia where she helped women returning to the community develop realistic God-centered re-entry plans. She has also served as the Volunteer Associate Chaplain at the Corrections Corporation of America Correctional Treatment Facility (CCA/CTF) in Washington, DC. She serves on the Washington, DC Department of Corrections Citizen Advisory Committee. Dr. Marks is currently writing a book entitled Peter’s Promise which contains reflections on the more than 100 scriptures which focus on prisoners and imprisonment. Dr. Marks received her Master’s Degree in Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary and her Doctorate in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maryland. She is a graduate of Leadership Maryland and Leadership Fairfax. In the summer of 2006, Dr. Marks taught Prison and After-Care Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary. She has been awarded Associate Status for Pastoral Ministry in the Prison Setting by the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
Dr. Marks is currently organizing Stamp Out Loneliness, an effort to collect 400,000 postage stamps so that the more than 130,00 women incarcerated in state and federal prisons can write home to their families.
